The competition is a solo based set up focusing on All Style dancers and Break dancers. The structure of the competition has 2 sections, starting off with a cypher (open circle for dancers to each take a turn to dance in) and that is seen as the first round of the competition where the judges choose the top 8 dancers. After which these top 8 dancers battle in a reguler battle structure, with a quarter, semi and finals, until there is a ‘winner’ who has to wait for the official finals.
The 3rd round to the competition then gives the other 7 competitors who got kicked out another opportunity to make it to the finals and they then take on a round of ‘7 to smoke’ (battle in a last man standing structure, winner is the dancer with the highest points of knock outs).
The winner of the 7 to smoke then takes on the winner from the battle before to crown a final winner of Bring Back The Groove in Breaking as well as the same process for the winner of All Styles.
The winners receives a cash prize as well as a ‘Starter and Happy Socks’ clothing hamper.
The success of both these competitions have shown great results in the South African hip hop scene and have found its niche for what it offers and what the scene needs today.
